Emmanuel Ayetse

Emmanuel Ayetse
Literacy Worker – Ghana

LBT is blessed to meet and work with fellow Lutherans in many countries. Emmanuel Ayetse is one.

Emmanuel learned about Christ through Lutheran outreach in his country of Ghana. He became an active lay person, telling others about Christ. As is usual in Africa, Emmanuel’s main method was relating to people one on one, building friendships, and inviting people to come learn more about Christ’s teachings. He spoke with people using their local languages of Fante and Twi. But one problem stood out: local language Scriptures were available, but people could not read them.

Emmanuel could read English and his own Fante language, so he became a teacher for adult men and women who wanted to learn to read their language. Most classes were in the evening.

LBT has been working with Emmanuel for nearly 15 years now, helping to produce needed materials and equipping him to be a “Trainer of Trainers.” He now coordinates the literacy efforts for the Lutheran Church throughout the southern Ghana. Regional workshops train pastors and other volunteers in teaching methods and methods, so new readers have access to God’s Word in their own language.
